Genetic mutations are, by their nature, completely random, and can affect a person’s looks in significant ways. They can also cause behavioral and developmental problems, but, in this article, we will review eleven genetic mutations that cause interesting (and beautiful) physical anomalies in people.

1. Vitiligo

In people with vitiligo, random patches of skin, meshes of hair and parts of the nails start losing pigmentation. So far there is no known treatment, but the process can be slowed down. Michael Jackson had vitiligo and he lost 100% of his skin pigmentation.

2. Mixed twins

Although twins are supposed to be identical in all aspects, in some rare cases, the twins look completely different. The parents of such twins are usually in for a big surprise.

3. Piebaldism

It can appear both in newborns and adults, and can cause a lock of hair to lose pigmentation and become white. Usually, the skin under or near the white hair lock is also affected.

4. Albinism

One of the most visible effects of this condition is the lack of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. Unfortunately, this mutation also affects other organs, leading to problems such as deafness and vision impairment. There is a fairly widespread social stigma connected to albinos, which many times directly affects their lives.

5. Waardenburg syndrome

This mutation causes blue eyes, independently of race. It also causes other conditions, like deafness.

6. Ocular albinism

It is a rare genetic mutation which causes a missing pigment from only the irises of the eyes. In families with predominantly dark eye color, blue or green eyes are most likely caused by the presence of ocular albinism.

7. Cleft chin

It is popular belief that a cleft chin shown strength, both moral and physical. In reality, it only shows that the gene tasked with fusing the chin bones is missing.

8. Gigantism

Although it is a very serious condition, which, in its worst forms can lead to a lot of health problems and even death, in its milder forms it can create some alluring effects on the body.
