If enough time passes in a relationship, it’s very likely for restlessness to rear its ugly head. It’s a change that does not happen suddenly, but in a creeping, unnoticeable way. The moment you realize that you’re unhappy, you’ve probably been unhappy for a while.

It’s difficult to accept that the crazy mad love phase has passed, but the sooner you can accept it, the sooner you can do something about the current situation. It might be as simple as talking things over with your partner, or maybe going in for some couples’ therapy or, just getting out of the relationship.

1. You’re bored

Nobody is hyped about being with their significant other all the time, but in a happy relationship, the time spent together is energizing, making you want to get more of it. If you notice that you start losing that feeling of longing for your partner, beware – rough seas ahead!

2. Being anywhere but home

When previously unwanted events, like sudden business trips, or fairly irrelevant engagements with family or friends start becoming more appealing than going home, it’s time to think about what’s actually going on in your relationship.

3. Telling little lies becomes commonplace

The moment you realize that you’ve started telling everyone around you, including yourself and your partner that things are just fine, while you’re feeling like screaming inside, things are clearly not fine. It is best to get things out in the open and deal with the consequences before they start affecting your mental health.

4. Flirting feels good again

Even if you hide and bury your negative emotions deep inside, forgetting about them, your mind has a tricky way of reminding you what’s going on. If you notice that flirting with others has become something desirable lately, it’s clear that you have some relationship issues you need to deal with.

5. Booze or drugs to numb the pain

Using any sort of chemical “help” to forget about the constant pain in your soul is not only a clear red flag that the relationship is at a critical juncture, but also something you might want to avoid, because of the ensuing downward spiral to self-annihilation. Act before it’s too late.

6. You avoid physical contact

One of the usual signs that the relationship is on a cooling trend is the fact that you are looking for any kind of subterfuge to avoid physical contact with your significant other. It can be kissing, touching of any kind or getting intimate.

7. It becomes hard to listen

In the past, you were probably a very good listener to your partner’s problems, but lately it has become very difficult for you to care about them. This not only shows that your relationship is an unhappy one, but also that your common ground is getting smaller and smaller.

8. Any small mishap is magnified

If the relationship goes on being unhappy for a long time, you get to a point where the smallest perceived mistake that your partner makes irritates you in a big way. You feel like you need to just up and go, get out of there right then. Actually, that is exactly what you need to do – get out of that relationship as soon as possible, because it has become toxic for you.
