Alopecia, also known as a spot baldness, is a condition in which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body. Today, we want to introduce you to Therese Hansson. She is a 26 year old girl from Malmo, Sweden, and she has alopecia.
When Therese was 14 years old, she was faced with this disease. She was very scared! However, after learning the cause of her hair loss, she began to struggle with her fears. When you are a teenager, your world looks completely different and the problems too.
“At first only my family knew about it until after a while I told my closest friends. I kept it a big secret and I was super sensitive if anyone asked me something about my hair. I was very good at hiding it.” Over time, Therese was able to go out and enjoy her bald beauty. We think that she is a person of strong willpower!
“The first time in the streets was amazing. I felt relieved and proud of myself. I actually didn’t do it alone. I was with a friend who also had her first time going out bald. We met at a community that is like Facebook for people with alopecia called alopecia world. We chatted and decided to meet in a town where we knew no one and do it together.”
Now, she combines a modeling career with work as a nurse. Moreover, she began to wear her wigs from time to time. “I realized bald is beautiful and could be a new thing for me to stop hiding.”
Therese is a great role model for every girl and woman! If you let beauty standards dictate your life, you’re never going to feel comfortable with yourself. So, enjoy being you, even if you are bald.
Therese says: “Don't hide. It will only make you feel worse. You will feel so relieved if you can just be yourself. Anyone that can’t accept it is not someone you need in your life anyway.”
