Here are 6 common causes of edema:
#1 Too much sodium
You may think that adding salt to food is the only time you are consuming sodium, but the reality is that sodium is already in many of the foods you eat including meats, anything canned, and many dressings or pre made sauces. When you eat too much sodium, your body goes into a type of panic mode and holds more water in order to stay balanced.

#2 Vitamin B6 deficiency

In order to avoid a vitamin B6 deficiency, focus on eating more lean meats like beef and chicken, bananas, tuna fish, potato skins, and nuts and seeds. #3 Not enough potassium
Potassium helps your body maintain the correct functioning in cells, organs, and tissues. When you don’t have enough, the body can react with cramps or weight gain. Potassium is another thing you body needs to keep water balanced.
Your best course of action will be to consume fruits that have a lot of potassium like melons. Otherwise, you can take a potassium supplement.
#4 You’re dehydrated
You are made mostly of water, and in order to keep everything in check, you need to constantly be consuming a lot of it. If you don’t drink enough water, your body will become dehydrated and retain whatever water exists as a survival reaction.
Let go of drinks like soda and coffee while you deal with your edema ,and drink loads of water.
#5 Body needs more magnesium
Magnesium is a mineral that is involved in more body processes than you can count, but it also plays a big role in causing or avoiding edema. Experiencing water retention is a strong sign that your body needs more magnesium.
You need to consume at least 200 mg per day, which you can do by taking a supplement or trying to reach the dosage through food. Focus on dark green veggies, dark chocolate, whole grains, avocado, and nuts.
#6 You eat a lot of processed food
Processed foods are bad for your body for so many reasons, but in the busy pace of current society, it can be hard to avoid them. They fill you with unnecessary sodium and sugar, which leads to edema very quickly. Try your best to eat whole and real foods instead.
