Even at the beginning of the zero evolutionary psychologists Marty Hazelton and David Bass found out that men overestimate the sexual intentions of women. There are disputes what the reason for this is: whether men give out wishful thinking or women do not talk about something.
To understand this, American psychologists interviewed volunteers on a complex scheme. At first, they were interested in whether people counted on sex, whether they behave in a certain way on a date, and how the interlocutor's behavior is interpreted.
Female estimates of their own intentions were lower than the assumptions of men, by 23%. At the same time, women were quite accurate in assessing male desires. Then the authors of the experiment changed the order of questions.
They asked people first about the behavior of the partner, and then about the person himself. Then the gap in the expectations of men and women was reduced by 8% - participants were more likely to be frank, introducing first the intentions of the other person. However, the results were not equal.

In another recent study of psychologists from Chicago and New York, it is said that men often take a simple benevolence for flirtation. Scientists interviewed 145 students of American universities. They were offered seven possible scenarios for a date with a pretty girl.
Those scenarios described the history of their relationship, whether they drank alcohol drinks or not, whether they touched each other or not. Then the young people were asked to rate on a scale of 1 (totally disagree) to 7 (exactly agree) the sexual interest and consent of the woman.
Even hearing "no" from the woman, the guys evaluated their chances on average by 2.3 points out of 7. In other cases, they almost always accepted passive behavior for agreement. Also, if the participants were told that the woman liked them, it was regarded as the default agreement.
In the scenario of meeting with the ex-girlfriend, the fact that they were once in a relationship, the majority of people equated to the agreement. In other questionnaires, these same students showed themselves as progressive and respectful young women people.
