We all know the mantra of “Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate”. But we substitute proper hydration with sweet drinks, coffee, or tea, the two of the latter being such important rituals in our lives that rarely do we realize caffeine is not a suitable replacement for water. There needs to be a solution, multiple windows, reminders and tricks to make our water intake regular, consistent and… habitual. Below are a couple of tricks we think will help you greatly on your way to a healthier life.
#1. The “8 glasses of water per day, every day” may be not for you. Do you know why? Because drinking a certain amount of water per day may not be sufficient enough when you look at the number and types of activities you engage throughout the day. Your personal body type and constitution are also factors. So figure out what amount is optimal for which routines.
#2. Do it gradually. It is not a chore or a time-limited task. Ease into your water-drinking. Feel it flow through you.
#3. No sweet soda drinks. Take that can of soda and go through the list of ingredients. Then name a single component that is healthy for you. Apart from water, you’ll hardly find one. So the solution is really simple: take that can of soda… put it back on the supermarket shelf… and take that bottle of water instead. Water is healthy for you.

#4. Make sure you have easy access to water. Store some bottled water at your house. Invest in a water filtering system. Keep a glass of fresh, clean water handy at your work desk.
#5. Take water with you wherever you go. Stepping out? Grab a bottle or some other, fancier, water container. Heading for work? Same. Driving? Keep the bottle nearby. This way, you will have your water whenever you feel thirsty.

#6. Up your water game. “But it’s just plain water!” No problem. Hey, we talked about it - put that soda can back on the shelf. There are plenty of ways to make your water more interesting, and even more healthy. Add your favourite fruit, berries or an occasional cucumber to your water.
#7. Try to chill. Well, literally and figuratively. Store your water in your refrigerator or add some ice to it before you drink it. You’ll see how chilled water will help you normalize the temperature and burn some calories!
#8. A system of reminders. With our handy gadgets, rarely is it possible to forget about something. Depending on your water intake and “dosage,” set up a string of reminders that will tell you it’s time to stretch for a bit and drink a glass of water. But don’t forget about setting that reminder.
#9. Eat water. Apart from making your water taste like your favourite fruit or berries, you can chew on some water-rich foods. Watermelon or a tomato, for example.
