The course of study
The study surveyed about fourteen thousands senior citizens who live in retirement homes. They were questioned about their health, hobbies and addictive habits such as, alcohol intake and smoking.
It turned out that elderly who drank two or more alcoholic beverages a day had a 20% reduced risk of mortality compared to teetotalers. Dr. Kawas said that it is hard for him to explain this phenomenon, but he believes that drinking can extend life. Other researchers also mentioned that moderate drinking cay reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, heart attack and other conditions.
Dr. Kawas adds that this study comes with serious caveats. “Remember that I was studying elderly when they are ninety years old and even older. I think people addicted to alcohol consumption at younger age couldn't live up to ninety”.

Dr. Kawas thinks that the excessive alcohol intake lead to negative consequences. Health experts also claim that drinking alcohol may increase the risk of seven types of cancer.
