The United states divorce rate fluctuates at forty percent, but that is not a whole picture. Many couples are thinking about divorce too.

National Opinion Research Center conducted a survey and found out that about sixty percent of people in a relationship are unhappy with their lives. Most of them blame financial problems, the lack of sex and children. But there is a new thing that destroys the relationship: the smartphone.

This study was conducted by researchers from Baylor University Hankamer School of Business. They introduced a new term "phubbing", which means the extent to which people use their smartphones while in the company of their relationship partners.

During the course of the study, the researchers questioned about 175 adult people in the United States to understand the effects of “partner phone snubbing.” They wanted to see the consequences of this modern phenomenon.

Their questionnaire includes statements such as:

• He puts his smartphone where he can see it when we spend time together.

• He holds his smartphone in his arms when he is spending time with me.

• He looks at his smartphone when he is talking to me.

• If there is a pause in our talk, he will check his smartphone.

The last assignment was to complete a scale to measure how often the use of smartphone was the cause of fights and disagreements in their relationships. They also created a scale to measure how satisfied they are with their partners, how satisfied they are with their lives and how often they feel depressed.

The results of study were mind-blowing! They found out that smartphone has become a real relationship killer – up there with finance, sex and children. It may seem that using a smartphone is innocent game, but it actually undermines the quality of the relationship.
