In movies, a person with heart attack faints, clutching the chest. But in reality, it may look not so dramatic and obvious.

Heart attack, medically called myocardial infarction, occurs, when coronary arteries that normally carry blood to the heart muscle, become blocked.

In the majority of cases, arteries are clogged by cholesterol (fatty) plaques, which grow during a long period of time.

Another possible cause is a spasm of one or more coronary arteries that leads to reduced blood flow to the myocardium. This problem is common in those, who use tobacco or illicit drugs regularly.

People with diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure are more likely to experience heart attack, caused by fatty plaques. Genetic predisposition and lifestyle factors play also a great role in developing this trouble.
