Detox, or cleanse diets have gained in popularity during last years.

Nowadays you can find wide variety of detoxing methods, thought to remove harmful chemicals from your body.

Most of these specific diets include a period of starvation, followed by rigorous diet, based on fruits, veggies, juices and water. Sometimes it is recommended to add certain herbs, supplements and laxatives, together with colon cleanses.

The main idea is to give your organs a rest during fasting, to enhance circulation and to promote elimination of toxins.

It's not clear enough, which toxins are removed, and how diets really work. Proponents of detox claim that every day we experience influence of numerous pollutants, heavy metals, phthalates and other synthetic chemicals, which can be extremely harmful for our health. Detox diets are considered to cleanse the body, eliminating these agents. In addition to this, these diets are said to help shed extra pounds and struggle against inflammation, insulin resistance, bloating, autoimmune processes and digestive issues.

However there is little scientific evidence that detox plans can really remove any toxins from the organism. Actually, human body has its own natural cleansing mechanisms to get rid of harmful agents. Your kidneys, liver, skin and immune system make great efforts to avoid adverse influence of toxins.
