Maybe each of us experienced pain, itching and troubles swallowing at least once in life.
Sore throat occurs as a result of immune response to foreign agents, such as viruses, bacteria and smoke.
When pathogens enter your mucous membranes in the throat, they cause swelling, inflammation and discomfort.
It's also possible to feel scratchy sensations, if you have allergy to molds, pollen and pet dander.
Gastroesophageal reflux is another reason for hoarseness and unpleasant feelings in the throat. It happens, when stomach content and acid back up into the esophagus and irritate its lining.
However in vast majority of cases sore throat is a symptom of infection, like flu, chickenpox and Streptococcus infection.
If the main culprit is virus, sore throat lasts for several days and doesn't require special treatment as usual. For bacterial infection, you may be recommended to take antibiotics.
But sometimes symptoms may be so uncomfortable, that you may look for special remedies to relieve it.
