Bad habits spoil our life and prevent us from obtaining our goals. They threaten our mental and physical health and they sap our energy. So why do we still have them? How can we get rid of our bad habits?
You must have heard the saying "Bad habits are easy to make and hard to break". Unfortunately, that is true. Habits are formed and strengthened as we journey through a continuous loop seeking to meet our desires. In order to destroy bad habits, we should make a great effort.
In this article, we would like to show you ten-minute practice, which can help you break the cycle. Are you interested? Scroll down to read this article right now. By performing this practice, you will be able to develop new healthy habits.
What is mindful awareness?
Mindful awareness is a form of curiosity that can act like a wedge to break the habit loop at various points and open up the opportunity for fresh choices.
The habit loop is a way to try to make ourselves happy by maximizing pleasure and avoiding pain. When a person found a way that seems to do that for her, lots of clues and triggers in life are available to fuel the engine and spin the wheel. For example: to a social media addict, every occasion in life is a chance to post. To a smoker, every problem is a chance to light up a smoke.
It is not just our brain. Our mind and body experiences and interprets a stimulus, such as Facebook post, as pleasant or unpleasant.
When we feel happy or hurt, we want the happiness to continue or the hurt to go away. This results in urge. We crave to do something to feel happy and get rid of pain.
You need to notice the urge and the possibility of not acting on it. As a result, you will feel more pleasant or less unpleasant. Notice that within the excitement lurks an uncomfortable restlessness. We sense the shallowness of the good feeling and how quickly it passes.
Having the urge rewarded sets up to want more of the same, so we begin to alter our perception to seek and find opportunities to repeat the process. It is no wonder that we check our social media hundreds of times a day.
How to stop it?
You should notice your triggers and learn how to cope with them. It requires an effort, but if you will be present, aware, and mindful, you will be able to get rid of your negative habits for good.
Take just a few minutes out of each day to bring yourself to a state of calm and wellness and balance your life using a combination of guided meditations and mindfulness techniques. The techniques are a simple, practical relaxation method for anyone.
