Sometimes we feel anxious, and our nerves go beyond the limits of the norm. We can not control ourselves by giving power to these feelings; and the most terrible thing is that nerves and stress can deprive us of sleep. What about you? Have you ever been in this situation?

Many people from time to time lose sleep due to a number of reasons, such as significant event, wedding, business meeting and more. The main thing is to know the solution to this problem. Any ideas? What about breathing technique?

There is a breathing trick called "4-7-8", which can give you a baby's sleep. You simply breathe in through your nose for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds, and exhale through your mouth for eight seconds. The combination of numbers has a chemical-like effect on our brains and slows the heart rate and soothes you to sleep.

How it works?

Firstly, we would like to say that this breathing-sleeping technique was developed by Andrew Weil. Weil is a doctor of medicine from Harvard, a health expert, an advocate of breathing practices to deal with stress, anxiety and sleep disorders.

People who experience stress or anxiety can not normally sleep and rest, because they breath shortly and shallowly, and often even unconsciously hold their breath. And you should know that some processes depend on the nature of our breathing: physiological and mental processes, immunity, mood, blood pH and blood pressure.

Using the “4-7-8” breathing technique, you are forcing yourself to take in more oxygen, allowing the oxygen to affect your bloodstream by holding your breath for seven seconds, and then emitting carbon dioxide from your lungs by exhaling steadily for eight seconds.

The technique will effectively slow your heart rate and increase oxygen in your bloodstream, and may even make you feel slightly lightheaded which contributes to the mild sedative-like effect. It will instantly relax your heart, mind, and overall central nervous system because you are controlling the breath versus continuing to breathe short, shallow gasps of air.

What can we say, it’s just an amazing technique that can give you a sound sleep. Moreover, you can use this trick not only for quality sleep, but also for: when someone upset you, if you are tense or anxious, to moderate your appetite, when you cannot fall asleep. It may take some practice and perseverance to achieve results. However, long-term benefits are worth the effort!

Take just a few minutes out of each day to bring yourself to a state of calm and wellness and balance your life using a combination of guided meditations and mindfulness techniques. The techniques are a simple, practical relaxation method for anyone.
