It is very easy to gain excess weight, it is even easier to bring oneself to obesity, and it is extremely difficult to lose weight after. Only one man out of 210 is able to lose weight. In women, the figure is slightly better - 1 out of 124, but this is still less than 1%.

Such data were obtained by British scientists. It would be funny, if it were not scary: the authors of the study tracked the weight of 278,982 participants with different degrees of obesity. Obesity is when your body mass index is more than 30 and it is about excess fat (some athletes also have a huge body mass index, and there is practically no fat).

Scientists figured out whether participants in the study could return to normal body weight or at least lose 5% of their weight. The conclusions turned out to be not very good: the chance to lose at least these percentages of excess weight - 1 out of 12 for men and 1 out of 10 for women with simple obesity.

In the group of people with a very high degree of obesity (BMI higher than 40) the probability was slightly higher: 1 out of 8 for men and 1 out of 7 for women. Everything is much worse with the return to normal weight. Each year, one man out of 210 and one woman out of 124 can lose weight to a healthy state.
