The aim of the study

The aim of this study was to examine how meditating or listening to a music program twelve minutes a day for twelve weeks may affect brain functions.

Researchers took sixty older adults who experience memory loss problems. Participants of the study were divided into two groups — the first group practiced meditation and the other group listened to music program.

The study results were amazing, as they showed significant cognitive improvements in people of both groups. Three months later, participants noticed improved brain functions, improved focus, processing speed, and subjective memory function.

These brain functions are exposed to subjective memory impairments, dementia and Alzheimer disease, so positive dynamics mean that meditation and music may help reverse memory loss associated with these conditions.

As the result, researchers found out that meditation practice and music listening may not only lift mood, treat sleeping disorders, boost memory, help build self-confidence, reduce stress levels, but also help reverse perceived memory loss in older adults and prevent age-related diseases such as, dementia and Alzheimer disease.
