The study

"The popularity of meditation techniques give hope that it is possible to become a better person and live a happier life just by practicing meditation, — said a professor from Coventry University in England, Miguel Farias. "We wanted to explore how powerful these techniques were, and how they may affect our feelings and our behavior towards others", - he added.

The first results showed that meditation really has beneficial effects, as it helps people feel kinder and more compassionate. However, other studies showed that meditation don't actually play a significant role in decreasing aggression or boosting compassion.

It turns out that the first results of the study had important methodological issues — compassion levels in some studies only raised if the meditation tutor was an author of the published report.

Scientists found that improvements, which people usually experience when they practice mindfulness may be the result of methodological mistakes and biases.
